Description

The City of Anniston is seeking a qualified and motivated professional to serve as City Planner. The City Planner is responsible for researching, developing, and implementing plans and programs that promote the effective use of land and physical facilities in accordance with laws, codes, and ordinances. This role involves collaboration with stakeholders, data analysis, and planning to support the city’s growth while addressing infrastructure, zoning, environmental impacts, and community needs.

Reporting directly to the City Manager, the City Planner works independently to meet goals and deadlines, consulting with the City Manager and City Attorney on complex or unusual matters. Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing site plans, elevation drawings, and building permits for regulatory compliance.
  • Serving as staff liaison to city committees and commissions.
  • Managing planning cases and projects in alignment with best industry practices.

This is a critical role for the continued development of a vibrant, well-organized, & sustainable Anniston.

Job Requirements

Possess a bachelor’s degree in urban or city planning, public administration or related field from an accredited college or university.

Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of work experience in municipal planning and development.

Desired: American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.

Possess a current and valid driver’s license; must be insurable.

Ability to work overtime and non-standard hours when required.

Ability to travel to attend professional development workshops and training programs.

Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and an initial drug screen.

Salary & Benefits

The minimum salary is $56,326.40 with a maximum salary of $98,280.00.
