Job Title: Traffic Reporter - KIRO TV

 

Position Overview

KIRO 7 News is looking for a sharp, energetic Traffic Reporter to join our fun, fast-paced morning show team! If you love helping people start their day informed and ready to roll, this is the job for you. This early-morning gig is all about teamwork, creativity, and connecting with viewers on air, online, and on social. You will also pitch in on other shows and report for later in the day. If you bring the energy, we’ve got a great crew ready to back you up!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver live and recorded traffic reports during KIRO 7 Morning News.
  • Monitor traffic conditions in real time using available technology and data sources.
  • Provide alternate routes and context for major slowdowns, incidents, and closures.
  • Create engaging content for digital and social platforms as needed.
  • Collaborate with producers, digital content producer, and fellow reporters to cover major traffic stories or breaking news with a traffic impact.
  • Maintain awareness of local events, construction projects, and major traffic patterns that affect Puget Sound commuters
  • Report after the morning show and fill in on weather as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years working on-air.
  • Strong on-camera and storytelling skills with the ability to perform live under pressure.
  • Ability to write and produce stories and present them live on TV, OTT, and on digital platforms.
  • Ability to analyze and simplify traffic information for a general audience.
  • Prior experience in television, radio, or digital traffic reporting is a plus.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university in Journalism, Communications or Science preferred
  • Familiarity with the Seattle metro area and its traffic dynamics is preferred.
  • Proficiency with traffic systems, mapping tools, and newsroom computer programs preferred

 

The wage for this position is $38.46 per hour.
