Company Overview
At VDC Specialists , we merge field expertise with cutting-edge construction technology. Since 2018, we’ve supported over 30 million sq. ft. of data centers, hospitals, labs, airports, and stadiums for some of the nation’s largest electrical contractors. Our mission: build practical, buildable digital models that crews can trust in the field.
Now, we’re looking for licensed journeyman electricians who are ready to bring their field knowledge into a new environment — one that’s less physical but equally impactful.
Position Summary
This role is designed for a licensed journeyman electrician who has spent years in the field (bending conduit, pulling and terminating wire, interpreting one-lines and specs) and is ready to transition into a BIM/VDC (Building Information Modeling / Virtual Design & Construction) role.
You’ll trade your tools for a desk, applying your NEC expertise and field intuition to ensure our models match real-world installations. - Review and confirm homerun circuit groupings, one-lines, layouts, and box sizing
- Flag NEC compliance issues (voltage drop, derating, conductor sizing, etc.) before they reach the jobsite
- Collaborate with modelers, designers, and contractors to minimize errors and rework
- Learn and operate BIM tools (Revit, Navisworks, Bluebeam) with provided training
- Participate in project coordination meetings and provide field-informed insight
- Document findings, issues, and recommendations clearly for project teams
Qualifications
- Licensed Journeyman Electrician (Kansas or reciprocal state license) – required
- Multiple years of on-site electrical experience (commercial/industrial preferred)
- Proficient in: bending conduit, pulling/terminating wire, validating plans and specs
- Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Comfort with reading/validating one-lines, specs, and engineered drawings
- Openness to learning computer software (basic computer literacy required; we’ll provide training)
- Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset
Why This Role is Different
- Less physical, more strategic : Put down the tools, but keep using your field knowledge every day
- Career growth : Pathways to lead teams and move into senior BIM/VDC roles
- Stability & schedule : Monday–Friday, 8a–4p, office-based in Lawrence, KS
